3rd Platoon, Able Company, 2-503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade (TF Rock) conducted humanitarian aid distribution to 60 families from the villages of Palooz, Chimaron and Qatar Kala, in Watapor Valley, Konar Province near combat outpost Honaker-Miracle.
Heavy rains during early February in the Watapor Valley caused considerable damage to several houses and fields. In a joint effort between the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GIRoA) and Coalition Forces, a humanitarian aid distribution was coordinated in order to help relieve suffering and strengthen relationships between local nationals, GIRoA, and Coalition Forces. Following the rains, elders of the Watapor Valley requested assistance from their government through the Watapor Sub-District Governor Haji Zalmay. Haji Zalmay is seen by the people as a strong and confident leader and easily approachable. Haji Zalmay requested the assistance of Coalition Forces in the distribution of humanitarian aid to the most severely affected people of the valley. The close relationship that has been formed between the GIRoA and Coalition Forces has directly affected the ease in coordination for such humanitarian distributions.
