BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (July 10, 2008) — A supply unit here won the Army Chief of Staff Supply of Excellence Award recently.
The 101st Airborne Division’s Division Special Troops Battalion Property Book Office earned recognition for their excellent efforts with a Department of the Army-level award. Supply units begin by competing on a division level and go through a thorough inspection of their records, standard-operating procedures, and how well they follow Army regulations.
The highest scoring unit is then judged and inspected at U.S. Army Forces Command level by a special team. The units are inspected more thoroughly and the team takes an in-depth look at how the units work and function. They also take mission effectiveness and unique solutions to individual issues into account.
“Although records are important, our primary mission is resourcing,” said Chief Warrant Officer Justin E. Evans, PBO officer. “If we’re told that our unit needs a few more Humvees, then it’s our job to make sure they get what they need.”
The Property Book Office is responsible for every piece of equipment in use and controlled by the battalion. The office also keeps track of all the records and inventories from each of the smaller unit’s supply rooms.
