BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (June 13, 2008) – Several militants were killed Thursday during a Coalition forces operation to disrupt anti-government operations in Paktya province.  The operation also resulted in one female civilian casualty.

Coalition forces searched several compounds in Zurmat District while targeting two militant leaders known to have facilitated foreign fighter attacks against Afghan government and Coalition forces.

Coalition forces were engaged by armed militants from one of the compounds.  The force responded with small-arms fire and air strikes, killing several militants and a woman who was located with the attacking militants in the building.  One militant detonated a suicide-vest IED in the compound, killing only himself.

Coalition forces discovered multiple AK-47s, a sniper rifle, ammunition vests, small-arms ammunition and grenades, which were destroyed to prevent future use.
