BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Villagers living in the Surkh District of Nangarhar Province received humanitarian assistance from Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition forces Feb. 24.
Nearly 200 villagers from Barihah Village and the surrounding area arrived at a humanitarian site to receive much-needed items to help them get through the severe winter weather, where storms have dumped several feet of snow and temperatures have dipped below freezing.
Families were provided food staples such as rice, beans and flour, while the ANSF also handed out winter jackets, shoes and blankets. Children were also provided school supplies and toys.
Villagers expressed their appreciation to ANSF soldiers for their assistance.
“Thank you for taking care of us,” said one villager, who received food and other supplies from ANSF soldiers.
Many residents said they had no other options to support their families and multiple attempts by the villagers to resupply their own food and fuel stocks during the winter have failed.
